What's the Bible About?
• Katy Wheat Borhauer • Series: Bible 101: Understanding the Bible, One Step at a Time
This Sunday, we begin a new five-week sermon series that I’m especially excited about: Bible 101: Understanding the Bible, One Part at a Time. The Bible is the most important book in the Christian life—our primary guide and spiritual resource—but for many of us, it can feel intimidating, unfamiliar, or even confusing. Maybe you’ve wondered: Where do I start? How do I make sense of it all? What does it really mean for my life today? If you’ve ever had those questions, you are not alone—and this series is for you. Throughout Bible 101, we’ll return to the basics. Think of it as a class where we show up not with all the answers, but with curiosity, hope, and a desire to grow. We’ll explore what the Bible is, the role it plays in our lives, and how we can better read and understand it—so that it becomes more than a book on a shelf, but a living part of our everyday walk with Christ. This Sunday, we’ll start with the big foundational question: What’s the Bible all about? We’ll turn to Luke 4 and 2 Timothy 3 and discover that the Bible is a unified story about God and God’s people that ultimately points us to Jesus. It’s not just a rulebook or a collection of inspirational quotes—it’s a living library. It contains both God’s words and the responses of faithful (and sometimes flawed) people through the centuries. As we’ll see, reading the Bible well means reading it in context—paying attention to its time, place, and purpose. Most importantly, we’ll be reminded that the Bible is not just about the past—it’s God’s tool to guide us today and grow us for tomorrow. Whether you’re a opening the Bible for the first time, a seasoned theologian, or simply need a fresh perspective, you are welcome here. I believe that as we explore these questions together, we will all be encouraged and equipped in our journey as disciples of Jesus.
