Dis & Respect

 • Series: DO UNTO OTHERS

Each day we are reminded that our bodies need nourishment. Usually it is because we get hungry. We are also encouraged to exercise, sleep and eat healthy foods. But what about our minds and our spirits? What reminds us to nourish them? And what about all of the ideas and concepts which we take in without really thinking about it through listening to podcasts, watching TV, reading social media? Against what do we judge that information to be true for us as Christians? How do keep focused on who Jesus calls us to be as his followers? By Judging what we hear by what we read in God’s word, focusing on who Jesus is and how he lived, and keeping in the forefront of our mind Jesus words: So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 7:12). Even in our current environment it is within our power to treat others with kindness, respect and compassion, when we seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Last Sunday we reflected upon what it means to live out kindness. This week we will be focusing on Dignity and Respect as a way to live out God’s love in our everyday lives. As we prepare for this week’s worship, I invite us to reflect on the meaning of dignity, which is the inherent worth and value of each and every person, no matter their race, color, creed. Everyone has it for it is God-given in birth. Respect is giving due regard for the feelings, beliefs, rights and traditions of others It is the act of recognizing the worth or values of a person. Respect can be earned or lost.
